MUSIC, ART, WORKSHOPS AND MORE

The Instituto de Cultura y Arte Latinoamericano, ICAL and the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center, Bergen Community College will host the VI ICAL Fest at the lobby of the Learning Center, located at 355 Main Street in Hackensack, NJ during the month of September of 2014.

ICAL takes advantage of the proximity of Columbus Day to celebrate Latino culture heritage by presenting The New York Trio, a classical music trio that promotes the great composers and music of our time. ICAL also hosts its ICAL Folkloric Group The concert “Latin American Connection” will be on September 19 at 7:00 pm at the lobby of Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center, located at 355 Main Street in Hackensack, NJ $5.00 ADMISSION.

Along to the spectacular music concert, the closing ceremony of our Art Exhibition gathering professional and empiricist artists from the tri-state area: Luz Helena Gallo, Angélica Muñoz Castaño, Lucia Luna, José Gregorio Gonzalez, Jose Vasquez B., Edmundo Rodriguez, José Garcia, Felix Ciprian, and Sigfrido Duarte will be showing the richness of Latin American artistic expressions from August 23 to September 27. ICAL invites all people from Hackensack and its surroundings to visit the lobby of the Ciarco Learning Center any time during September and enjoy the plurality around. The losing ceremony will be held September 19 at 7:00 pm.

Moreover the VI ICAL Fest will offer, Art with Images, an artistic collage workshop for children and adults, instructed by Angélica Muñoz Cataño, Colombian artist. The workshop will be offered on September 20 from 10am to 1pm in room 130 of the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center, $10.00 admission per family. Art with Images:

A 4 hrs long workshop to create an artistic collage. In the first hour of the workshop the basics of design are taught to the students followed with a demonstration on how to play with images to produce a collage with a compelling composition so that it could be considered a piece of art. The remaining time will be hands on studio time for the students to create the piece. Each student will bring photocopies of photographs (family portraits, self-portraits) at different distances (close ups and full figure landscapes) in both color and black and white.
*All ages welcome*

Materials:

  • 25 -8″x10″ mats-cardboards
  • magazines
  • news papers
  • 25-scissors
  • 13-glue sticks
  • 25-pencils
  • 5 boxes of 12-color pencils
  • 5 boxes of 12-color markers
  • 1 no color- CLEAR encaustic wax medium 333ml cake (11.28oz)
  • 1 roll-cellophane paper
  • 2 wooden tongues
  • 2 big bottles of- Mod Podge glossy

Note for the parents:

  • -Each student will bring photocopies of photographs (family portraits, self-portraits) at different distances (close ups and full figure landscapes) in both color and black and white, old magazines and news-papers.
  • -kids should wear old clothes or bring an apron.
  • -no open toe shoes!!!!

Muñoz is a Colombian-American fine art-documentary photographer looking for gallery representation and exhibition opportunities. Born in Teaneck New Jersey and raised in the Colombian coffee region, Muñoz’ work has been an exploration of mixed-cultural identity and the investigation of traditions preservation and regeneration. She currently resides in the United States and continues to travel photographing towards her various bodies of work. Her work has been part of several group and solo exhibitions both in the United States and Colombia. Muñoz is part of the Latin America Photography 2 Collection of the Lehigh University Art Galleries in Bethlehem, PA; as well as part of the Southwest Collection Special Collections Library of the Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX were she received her MFA degree on Photography.. Muñoz has been recipient of several scholarships and awards; she was one of five recipients of The 2009 Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund Award, given by The Dallas Museum of Art to artists under 30 with promising careers.
